Also how did you get OSX 10.6 (a 5 year old OS released in August 28.I don't know if version 4 of Memory Cleaner can be any better than version 3, which I just ran in a comparative test against the free Memory Clean application available at the Mac store, but in a head-to-head test, version 3 of Memory Cleaner was only able to deliver a little more than 2 GB of free memory out of 8 GB of RAM, while Memory Clean delivered 6 GB under exactly the same conditions. Now I get another window which says:Memory Cleaner 2.0 for OS X - Popular Utility Updated for Lion, On Sale. Located in Siberia, Russia, the ZipZapMac today. Mac OS X 10.6 or later 0.5 MB.Press the (OK) button to clean the memory. For optimal results, don't use any other applications during the cleaning process.[check-box} Do not show this message againDoes it strike anyone that something is missing here? I mean, I am not a programmer, but don't you think I should get a Cancel button, too? What if I changed my mind? What if I don't want to clean my memory anymore? What if I don't want to quit all the other applications I am in the midst of using? What if I don't want to interrupt my work flow just to gain some more memory? Wouldn't the act of closing those applications automatically free up memory? If so, then what's the damn point of this application? Now, I don't like an application which gives me a warning message and gives me no other option but to say OK and go ahead to perform the procedure about which it warned not to do without risking unforeseen results? Am I alone in thinking like this? Here we yet another example of a small utility written by a developer who fails to educate us adequately and ahead of time how his application works and what its potential negative impact can be.To give such an application even one star would be a gift that is beyond my generosity. Since the developer gives me so little, I have little choice but to respond in kind. Not only is it free, which obliterates any critique that it is an attempt to extort money from unsuspecting Mac users, but it is instantly available to you—through its installation as a Menu Bar item which displays the current amount of memory available to you at any given time as a GB number in your Menu Bar. You just have to chose the one you like.My preference is this one where I write: Memory Cleaner X. Let me try to offer a non-technical recommendation for installing a memory cleaner utility to your daily arsenal in general, and this application, in particular.I have read some of comments contributed here and elsewhere arguing that, as a class of software, memory cleaners are either useless under Mac OS X (because the Mac OS supposedly has a built-in memory recoup feature that make such memory cleaners redundant) or that paid-for memory cleaners are nothing but scams to take advantage of ignorance among Mac users, who are unaware that there is a Terminal command which can apparently accomplish the job. While I do not wish to undermine, challenge, or argue with the insights and conclusions made by experts with more advanced technical knowledge in this area that I currently have or desire to acquire, I do want to offer my own insights and suggestions, which are based, not on theory, but on using a few of these memory cleaner utilities over the past three months or so.In short, they work. NONE of them will do anything even close to freeing your Mac’s memory (a.k.a. RAM, or Random Access Memory).
![]() Memory Cleaner 10.6 Mac OS X 10![]() After three months or so of use, I have not encountered any problems at all. So, I have integrated Memory Cleaner X into my daily routine, and I call upon it to clean up memory several times a day. After I did so, I was rewarded with 3 GB of available memory. You figure it out! As for me, I already have.
